Luglio col bene che ti voglio…

enrica avessi scrittrice

E in fondo, l’estate cos’è?

It’s the same old story, every year in July, I end up with my tongue hanging out. It’s not the heat’s fault. The company I work for has air conditioning, with a splitter fanning right onto my shoulders, I am usually colder than during the winter. July … while “waiting” for a late coming August. It’s like Waiting for Godot, the play by Samuel Beckett. But it’s a wait that keeps me company, that if it weren’t there, I would probably miss it. July is my chance to give in to the charm of colors encouraged by my garden sun-tan. July is aperitif time with friends in the main city square, where I enjoy the pleasingly late sun setting light. And the flavor of iced prosecco in my mouth. It’s the month of the open-air live gigs, of local villages festivals, of the air smelling traditional delicacies. It is the month when people complain about the heat – the same people that complain about the cold during the winter. July is the month of the right company that make me feel already on holidays. All in all, what’s summer like? Summer is the taste of ripe watermelon. The tastier you try is at the beginning, the worse at the end. – in between the are the endless walks back and forth from the bathhouse to the sun shading umbrella. The summer I am waiting for is August, while enjoying the wait. For in the twinkling of an eye I will turn from a sand building site manager into a spectator of “time for loving” on TV, over the last melancholic w-end before going back to work, while having a tasteless watermelon slice.
