Sai che cos’è il Denim Day? È una manifestazione di protesta contro la violenza sulle donne. Questa iniziativa nasce quindici anni fa, quando una ragazza italiana di 18 anni subisce violenza sessuale. La sera dell’incidente, la vittima indossa un paio di jeans aderenti e la Corte di Cassazione annulla la condanna per stupro nei confronti dell’imputato, un uomo di 45 anni, sostenendo che l’aggressore non può essere riuscito, senza la collaborazione della ragazza, a sfilarle da solo i pantaloni per compiere l’atto di cui è accusato. Il clamoroso caso di cronaca fa il giro del mondo ed è proprio negli Stati Uniti che l’associazione Peace Over Violence di Los Angeles dà vita al Denim Day. Una giornata che vuole coinvolgere tutte le donne ad indossare un paio di jeans skinny per rivendicare il diritto a vestire come si desidera senza essere giudicate o molestate. Nonostante l’Italia sia uno dei paesi europei in cui questo tipo di violenza è più diffusa, il primo Denim Day italiano si terrà Il 29 maggio e sarà organizzato e promosso da Guess Foundation Europe con il patrocinio della sezione italiana di The Circle – Oxfam, un’associazione femminile animata da personaggi importanti del mondo dello spettacolo, come Annie Lennox e Livia Firth. Dal 17 al 29 maggio, Guess lancia una campagna di sensibilizzazione e charity: per ogni paio di jeans venduto e per alcuni prodotti selezionati donerà il 10% dei ricavi a D.i.Re “Donne in Rete contro la violenza”, il primo gruppo italiano a carattere nazionale che unisce 70 centri anti-violenza e Case delle Donne. Più di 90 Guess Store saranno attivi nel supporto del Denim Day, attraverso vetrine create ad hoc e corner interni. Oggi, con una settimana di anticipo, Guess Foundation Europe organizza un evento esclusivo con asta silenziosa a cui saranno presenti Antonella Antonelli, presidente di The Circle Italia, Paul Marciano, direttore creativo di Guess, Patti Giggans, fondatrice del Denim Day e Titti Carrano, presidente di D.i.Re “Donne in Rete contro la violenza”. Anche tu puoi fare la differenza, ti servono solo un paio di jeans, indossali nella giornata del 29 maggio e sostieni la lotta contro la violenza sulle donne.

Do you know what the Denim Day is? It’s a protest against violence on women. This event was created fifteen years ago when an Italian girl aged 18 was sexually abused. The night of the crime she was wearing a pair of skinny jeans and the Court of Cassation didn’t condemn the criminal, a man aged 45, on the assumption that he wouldn’t have been able to take off the jeans without the active collaboration of the girl herself. The notorious case became popular world-wide and in the USA the Peace Over Violence association based in Los Angeles created the Denim Day. A day at involving all women, asked to wear skinny jeans, in order to affirm their right to wear what they want without being judged or abused. Despite Italy is one of the countries where this kind of crime is more wide-spread, the first Italian Denim Day will take place next May 29 organised and promoted by Guess Foundation Europe and also sponsored by the Italian section of The Circle – Oxfam, a women association animated by famous celebrities such as Annie Lennox and Livia Firth. From 17 to 29 May, Guess launches a self-awareness and charity campaign: for every pair of jeans they sell and for some other selected products, the company will give the 10% of proceedings to D.i.Re “Donne in Rete contro la violenza”, the first Italian group that joins 70 anti-violence centres and centre of support for women who suffered abuses. More than 90 Guess stores will be acting in the support of theDenim Day, via special display and corners set in the shops. Today, one week before, the Guess Foundation Europe organises an excluisve auction day with Antonella Antonelli, the president of The Circle Italy, Paul Marciano, Guess designer, Patti Giggans, founder of the Denim Day and Titti Carrano, President of D.i.Re “Donne in Rete contro la violenza”.
