“La Capannina” is an integral part of Forte dei Marmi history, here it is possible to feel the true “flavour of the sea”… A place where the cheerfulness of the Versilia coast comes to life and where many generations have passed by, leaving there a piece of their heart. Have you ever been there? And I wonder, have you ever been to the club in the club….. Busà’s piano bar? A sort of privée lounge where people of all age meet, year after year, to sing and dance around a piano…that of Stefano Busà. It’s not a traditional piano bar, it’s not a karaoke but a real show. I’ve known Stefano for two years now and this time I’ve asked him for an interview that has turned out to be a pleasant chat.. Hi Stefano, me and you first met at the iconic place of Forte dei Marmi, La Capannina, and you are the one who best represents the place… classic, cheerful and timeless. Loretta Grazzini dedicated a book to this club in Versilia: “Mille cuori e una capannina”, to write about its 90 years of history. Love, flirts, furtive meetings, cultural events and entertainment…tales of real life… And now I ask you, what does La Capannina mean to you? As you know, I’m not from Forte dei Marmi, I come from Pistoia and I didn’t grow up with the myth of La Capannina. I’ve learnt to love this place thanks to the town itself, the staff of the club and mainly to its guests, the heart and soul of La Capannina. Saying what this place means to me is not an asy task… I can say that it’s an important part of my life, a place I’ve given much to and that has given much to me too, both in terms of work and life. Tell me about the funniest episode that you remember. There are so many episodes that it’s quite difficult to pick just one, for example, years ago, Marina Ripa di Meana came with a request for a song, she chose “Champagne” and added: “I would like the writer of the song to sing it…” and she handed the microphone over to Mimmo di Francia himself. And tell me, how many hearts were broken by Stefano Busà? (Smiling) Well, my piano bar is always full of beautiful women… And I must admit that I’ve broken some hearts in these years… Biagio Antonacci would sing: “the distracted free runs of the heart are sometimes better than big things” and Francesca is now your one and only….it’s right to say “Two hearts and a shack!” (shack means capannina in Italian) You graduated in industrial electronics, have you ever thought of “giving off sparks” in a different way, When did you understand that music was your future? Or better, a pun, how did you get the flash of inspiration? Everything started when I was 10, my sister used to have piano classes and I tried to repeat what she was learning. After two years, my parents realised that I probably deserved a piano teacher too so I learnt to play the piano. Then I started playing in an orchestra and I founded my band but I took the decision to be a musician while I was serving the army. Not to feel lonely I had brought a small electronic keyboard with me and at night, to banish melancholy, I played and sang. In that period, in that void and sad room, I decided who I wanted to be. Back home, I started to have singing classes, I used to go to piano bars and I understood what I liked and what I didn’t, then I finally found my personal style… one day, somebody noticed my talent and offered me a contract to play in Moena, in the Dolomites, during the winter season. The season was a success and everything started from there. Your enthusiasm is contagious; I dare saying that you are the Jerry Lee Lewis of Versilia, as those who sing around your piano….go on fire, but, truly….confess: what is the song that you can’t stand no more? My audience is strange…sometimes I try to add new songs to my traditional repertoire, but they are so fond of famous songs that it’s not always easy to “change the tune”. It happens that a song like “MARACAIBO” is requested 15 times during the same night, and I do my best to give a limit, I think of a possible solution…the most famous one is the “time check” I invented this rule that a song can be played only when this signal is given. The funniest thing is that some of my personal covers of songs are now part of a slang, for example the sentence “piano bar da Busà” was invented by a guest on “50 Special” tune, replacing the sentence “fuori città” and now this version is also played in other piano bars. And what song still gives you a thrill? If we are talking about energy, I would say “Balliamo sul mondo” by Ligabue, and from a more emotional point of view, for sure “Una lunga storia d’amore” by Gino Paoli. Let’s talk about fashion…no, don’t worry…just a few words, Somebody became famous singing ‘”Nu jeans e ‘na maglietta” (jeans and a T-shirt) what do you like wearing for your nights, what’s your combat outfit? Well, what I’m wearing today is my combat outfit, the traditional men style outfit: a pair of jeans and a shirt… it only misses my embroidered initials. You latest single was “Vento d’estate”, what project are you working on at the moment? I’m preparing the storyboard for the video clip of my new single, “Libero”, but I like to let my imagination roam freely so I’m also working on other projects. The first one, called “The sound of images”, together with Luca Bracali, a dear friend of mine and ex-school mate who is an artist too. The concept is that of showcasing his marvellous works of art together with my music, We are trying to find the ideal location, perhaps London… because it’s a city that we both love so much and because it is vibrant and suitable for these events. The second project started in partnership with a friend who deals with vibration therapy, and she “ordered” me to create five tunes for five different themes: water, air, fire, earth and sky. I created and played these five elements then, in my recording studio, she gave the final touch adding the tracks with her Tibetan bells. The result is really incredible and it will be soon available on iTunes. Last, classic question, I have so many dreams and I can’t help asking you: what is your secret wish? Surely a concert where I can play and sing my songs…perhaps the biggest dream I have, but many of dreams have been fulfilled so far, so many that I couldn’t have ever imagined, and maybe this wish will be fulfilled too! . I spent a marvellous afternoon with Stefano… We had a chat, took photos at the piano of Hotel Byron in Forte dei Marmi, and his music just for me….a magic atmosphere. I think I will “record” these hours in his company as some of the best of my life.
