Express yourselfie

3. Mettiti in posa. 4. Scatta. 5. 6. Gioca a carte scoperte. 7.

Commandments of the selfie: 1. Put on a really cool expression and a winking look. 2. Find the right light and your best profile. 3. Pose. 4. Snap. 5. Share your photo. Someone, back in 1948, has given you the freedom of expression, the freedom of letting everyone know who you are and how you feel though words, works, missions, writings or pure images, the freedom to do all this via any means and technology has equipped you with the right ones: the first camera, then the telephone with integrated camera and video-camera , and in the end the media self. Ours is the society of image and a selfie is what you need.  It doesn’t really matter whether they define it the new social phenomenon of egocentrism, in truth it is only a personal form of artistic expression, a manifestation of beauty, a delicious exhibitionism criticized by those who think it is something they do not possess, ignoring meanwhile, that they do and always had, all along.  In the past people used to go to a professional painter, who would be commissioned a painting to be hanged and admired on the chimney of the house; he would take into consideration his own character, the historical period he lived in and would execute according to his own style and flair, but today, after years spe4nt looking for somebody able to catch your essence with really poor results, you have a new tool at your own disposal that you can use to obtain the result you wished for by yourself: the selfie. The first make a self-portrait in order to show the world his true nature was Leonardo da Vinci, by painting himself in front of a mirror while wearing a wig, with a painting behind in the backdrop. In those days, to admit that the Mona Lisa was Leonardo himself dressed  like a woman, would have created a huge scandal; therefore, he had rather told the world the tale of Madam Lisa living in front of his house, who, desiring a portrait , had ordered the masterpiece but she didn’t have a clue that such realistic representation would become the symbol of the world artistic heritage  and one of the most shared selfie ever. Nowadays too if you post a photo wishing to “make a beautiful figure” and receive the consent of an audience, small or large that it might be by choosing the one that best renders you justice. You put on stake the best of you: strengths, skills, aspects to reach popularity and since “in the future everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes” – as Andy Warhol stated – you really hope into that wage floor. If you are determined and ready to give anything to obtain it,  you are shameless exhibitionist, but if you wait for it passively, without putting into the game each single molecule of your being, you are still an exhibitionist, a latent one though. The impudent one expresses his or her desire to show off, they are totally shameless and they strive everyday to be noticed. They strike poses with natural cleverness that is more similar to a clever naturalness, they have a sculpted expression on their face meaning: “I am what I am and you mean nothing”. They are so self-confident that they always seem cool, any time, even early in the morning, with no make-up on, with a bad breath, in curlers and dye on their head. The latent ones, on the contrary, would never ever reveal their desire to become popular, they would die rather than admit it. They are easy to spot as they are ready to swear on their Instagram profile that they do not give a damn about being noticed. They  are not striving to popularity yet they mumble if nobody likes their photos. Latent ones think to disregard the impudent but they are charmed by their nonchalance, they envy their confidence and knowing that they’re too shy to do the same, simply make them crazy.  They have a sculpted expression on their face meaning: “I hope I can make it somehow” and they don’t look cool even with Grace Coddington in their wardrobe who tell them what to wear not to go unnoticed.  But commandments are ten and five are missing, the most important ones that can tell you how to become a serious and impudent exhibitionist.  6. Fair play, always. 7. Do not pretend to be what you are not. 8. Express yourself. 9. Don’t go for second best baby. 10. So if you want it right now, then make him show you how. – Madonna said in 1989-
